— It doesn't seem to matter where the Craig Sea Sharks compete. Results are the same - success.

Hosting a three-day meet at the Craig Pool Complex, which started yesterday and goes through tomorrow, the Sea Sharks made coach Meghan Francone's job look easy.

"They did amazing today," she said. "They've all met their goals today and are improving their technique. I was impressed with everyone."

Sixteen-year-old Katherine Dodd qualified for both Summer Clubs and Western Slope League competition in the 1,500-meter freestyle with a second-place time of 24 minutes, 22 seconds.

It was Dodd's first time competing in the event, which impressed Francone.

"It just shows what amazing endurance she has and what a great swimmer she is all-around," Francone said.

Emily Mahanna, 13, placed fourth in the 13- and 14-year-old division in a time of 26:02.25.

Kirstie McPherson, 13, came in fifth in 29:21.65. It was McPherson's first time competing in the event, and she was glad to finish in less than 30 minutes.

"It's nice to be at home for once," she said. "If only it wasn't so hot."

John Kirk, 14, placed first in the 13 to 14 age group in a time of 24:42.54.

In the 7 and younger "B" division 25 free, Abbie Told came in fifth in 30.18.

Jaci McDiffett placed eight in the "C" division in 42.37.

Colby Beckett, 7, came in first in the "B" division 25 free in 28.50. Brayden Tuttle, 5, came in second in 36.34, and Joshua Turner third in 36.84.

Spencer Rice, 6, placed second in the "C" division in 49.28.

Christa Bird and Emma Samuelson, both 8, qualified for Western Slope League in the 25 free with times of 25.25 and 27.06, respectively.

The meet continues today with morning sessions at 8:15 a.m. and afternoon sessions at 1:15 p.m.

"They swam very smart today," Francone said. "I was pleasantly surprised with every single one of them."
