Brenda Kay Knoche

Brenda Kay Balleck was born July 26, 1953, in Craig to Andrew and Jane Balleck. She attended school in Craig and was always remembered by her classmates and teachers as a very entertaining and outgoing young girl, who made friends easily.

Brenda was very involved in extra-curricular activities such as the drama club and speech team. She was a natural leader, friends said. Brenda was also a member of the "Aqua Maids" synchronized swim team and the pep squad during high school. She graduated from Moffat County High School in 1971.

On July 12, 1975, Brenda married John H. Knoche in Craig. To this union three children were born: son Erik, followed by two daughters, Kristin and Andrea. Brenda was a loving, stay-at-home mom and involved her children in many activities. She loved all forms of exercise, such as biking,

jogging and cross-country

skiing. Brenda either had her children in a backpack or in a bike cart that she pulled behind her.

Her children loved these outings as much as Brenda did.

After Brenda's marriage ended, she remained close to her children and was very proud of their many accomplishments.

Brenda had so many interests and hobbies throughout her life, such as reading, listening to music, singing, writing, humorous stories and poems and laughing. She had a wit about her that enabled her and those around her to see the lighter side of life.

She also had a special love for animals, especially cats. From a young age until her death, Brenda had many devoted cats, which brought much joy to her life.

Brenda touched so many people's lives and she will be remembered by many as a truly unique woman.

Brenda passed away Dec. 21, 2006, at her home in Craig. She was welcomed into heaven by those who preceded her in death: her brother Danny; father Andrew, and numerous aunts, uncles, grandparents and, of course, her cats.

Brenda will be sadly missed by her children, Erik Knoche of Fort Collins, Kristin Knoche of Denver, and Andrea Knoche of Craig; her mother, Jane Balleck of Craig; brothers Drew Balleck of Craig, and Barry Balleck of Statesboro, Ga.; and a sister and best friend Judi Brown of Grand Junction.

Brenda will also leave an empty place in the life and heart of Leo Avis, her long-time companion and her many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial services took place Dec. 29, 2006, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Gary Ellgen officiated. Drew Balleck gave the obituary, then read an original poem written about Brenda.

Musical selections were the songs "Let it Be," and "Return to Innocence."

Judi Brown presented an original poem written for her sister as did Kristin Knoche and Andrea Knoche. The closing song was "I Stand All Amazed," and Derek Cleverly gave the closing prayer.

Memorial donations can be made in the name of Brenda Knoche in care of Grant Mortuary.
