The Moffat County Sheriff's Office and the Craig Police Department are conducting a joint criminal investigation into an alleged sexual assault, the agencies announced Tuesday.
The alleged assault was reported during the weekend.
K.C. Hume, a sheriff's office investigator, said he could not comment on specifics involving the suspect in the case or the alleged victim because the investigation is on-going.
"We're not going to release any more information than the joint investigation," Hume said. "We're actively working this investigation, and we hope to have more information to release as soon as possible."
Hume said he was unsure when the report of the alleged assault was made. According to the police department's call sheets from Saturday, a person visited the police department to speak with an officer in reference to child molestation charges.
Hume said both the police department and sheriff's office have "jurisdictional interest," in the case. The investigation is a joint effort because the alleged assault may have occurred inside the city limits and in the county, he said.
