William "Bill" C. Lockhart

William "Bill" C. Lockhart died Dec. 21, 2006, at Family Health West in Fruita. He was 82 years old.

Bill was born May 18, 1924, to Robert Louis and Lena A. (Reese) Lockhart in Kimberly, Idaho.

Bill spent his childhood in Jenks, Okla., and graduated from Jenks High School. In 1942, he spotted a young woman skating at the local roller skating rink. At that moment, he knew he would marry the love of his life, Marcheta Lawson, doing so on Oct. 28, 1942, in Tulsa, Okla.

He worked at John Zink Engine Company in Tulsa. Their daughter, Linda, was born in 1943.

Bill became a pilot during WWII and earned rank as lieutenant. His second daughter, Nancy, was born in 1946.

Bill attended Long Beach City College, in Long Beach, Calif., graduating with a business degree. In 1954, his third daughter, Billie, was born.

In 1955, he purchased a furniture store in Craig, which became the family business, Craig Furniture. He was in the furniture business in Northwest Colorado for 40 years.

Part of Bill's other career was spent in the Christian Ministry. Bill enjoyed studying, teaching and preaching the Bible, and working with his wife, Marcheta. He shared his knowledge with many people during the years and gave Bibles to anyone who wanted one. He was a member of the Orchard Mesa Christian Church in Grand Junction at the time of his death.

Bill liked flying his Piper Cherokee airplane, fishing, hunting and spending time with family and friends in the mountains around Hahn's Peak, Colo. He and Marcheta also experienced traveling to many countries during their 64-year marriage.

Bill is survived by his wife Marcheta of Grand Junction; stepfather, Herb Blagg of Morriston, Fla.; children, Linda Lockhart of Grand Junction, Nancy and her husband Jim Grecian of Tehachapi, Calif., and Billie Lockhart-Luckett (Cris, deceased) of Grand Junction.

He is also survived by seven grandchildren; Kurt (Terry) Laubhan, Laura Laubhan, Luke Luckett and Jordan Luckett, Jennifer Hicks, Jamie Taylor and Julie Banigan, 10 great grandchildren; David and Dale Laubhan, Stefanie and Dustin Hicks, Ramsey, Tristan, Keegan and Jaiden Taylor, and Emily and Nikki Banigan, brother, Michael Blagg and nephews and nieces; Diana Jones, Dawn Ikeman, Justin Blagg, Stephen, Timothy and Mark Scarbeary.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lena; father, Robert F. Lockhart; step-mother, Bea Blagg; sister, Francis (Earl) Scarbeary; brother, Robert K. Lockhart and nephew Herb Lockhart.

A viewing was on Dec. 29 at Martin Mortuary in Grand Junction. A funeral service was on Dec. 30 at 11 a.m. at Martin Mortuary with interment at Memorial Gardens in Grand Junction.
