The attorney for a former bookkeeper accused of embezzling public money entered a not guilty plea on behalf of his client Monday afternoon in the 14th Judicial District Court.
Susie Lord, of Craig, is charged with three felonies -- theft in a series between $500 and $15,000, embezzlement of public property and forgery of a government issued document. The charges stem from offenses that allegedly occurred during Lord's employment at Moffat County High School.
Her attorney, Kris Hammond, of Steamboat Springs, said he and prosecutors were unable to reach a resolution to the case. He then asked Judge Michael O'Hara to schedule the case for jury trial.
O'Hara scheduled the trial for at 8:15 a.m. Aug. 6. Prosecutor Russell Wasley said he believed the trial could be completed in three days.
The judge scheduled a pre-trial conference, and deadline for a plea agreement, for 1 p.m. June 11.
Attorneys in the case have 30 days to file motions for hearing, Judge O'Hara said.
Prosecutors allege Lord embezzled money from the high school activities account, a sum believed to be about $57,000. The alleged embezzlement took place throughout a four-year period, from August 2002 to August 2006, prosecutors said.
