Wildlife public

meeting held Feb. 15

Colorado Wildlife Commissioners Roy McAnally of Craig and Tom Burke of Grand Junction are planning a public meeting in Craig to get input on wildlife issues.

Commissioners typically hold meetings around the regions they represent to visit with constituents and cover a wide range of wildlife topics.

Colorado Division of Wildlife staff members also attend meetings to help answer questions and provide information.

The wildlife commission is an 11-member board appointed by the governor that sets policies for fishing, hunting, watchable wildlife and non-game, threatened and endangered species.

Commissioners also oversee DOW land purchases and property regulations.

The public meeting will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15 in the Moffat County Fairgrounds Pavillion, 640 E Victory Way.

Web site offers youth character training

One Web site is taking on the charge to teach youths positive character traits.

"KidsCom.com provides children an online outlet to express themselves and learn the skills and attitudes to help them become responsible and successful adults," said Jori Clarke, president of Circle 1 Network, which publishes KidsCom.com.

KidsCom.com teaches children character traits through a virtual pet program called "Plant Babies." Each Plant Baby represents a positive attitude: balance, confidence, gratitude, hope, humor, patience and persistence.

"Children adopt a Plant Baby and are entrusted with its daily care, including feeding it and increasing its 'anti-cloud power' to fight the 'Clouds of Chaos,' which represent negative traits that can 'cloud' anyone's thinking: anger, gluttony, sloth, greed, jealousy and others," Clarke said.

KidsCom.com also features interactive games, writing challenges, message boards and other activities that teach kids how to apply positive character traits in real-life situations. There's also a program that permits parents and teachers to reward kids for their good behavior.
