New sports reporter at Daily Press

The Craig Daily Press had a new face in its office Thursday.

The face of Drew Turner, who will be the newspapers face of sports coverage.

"We're very excited to have him here," Daily Press Editor Jerry Raehal said. "He comes with high recommendations, and from our interviews, it's clear he has a very good understanding of what it means to be a sports writer at a community newspaper."

Turner moved to Craig from Everett, Wash., where he worked as a sports reporter covering four school districts for sister newspapers, the Marysville Globe and the Arlington Times.

"After leaving the friendly confines of my native Pacific Northwest, I am happy to be back in the sunny state of Colorado," said Turner, who lived in Colorado between 1998 and the fall of 2000.

Turner, 32, grew up in Port Angeles, Wash., and took an indirect path to the journalism field. He spent some years working in the airline business "I was lucky to begin my journalism career in sports writing after graduating from Washington State University," he said. "Sports writing is combination of two of my biggest passions -- writing and sports."

In his free time, Turner enjoys running, hiking and is looking forward to exploring new parts of Colorado.

"Coming from the Seattle area, I love the fact that there is no traffic in Craig," Turner said. "As much as I enjoyed the natural beauty of my native land, I became increasingly frustrated at the worsening traffic."
