Craig briefs for Dec. 17

Post office: Keep mailbox area clear

The Craig Post Office reminds postal customers to leave a safe, accessible path to mailboxes as winter weather conditions continue.

In a press release, the Post Office reminds customers:

• To make sure the mailbox is visible and free of snow and ice.

• To make sure the mailbox is safely accessible for Post Office letter carriers.

• To make sure to clear the mailbox area of snow, sleet, ice and debris.

If mailboxes are blocked off and conditions are too difficult, letter carriers must consider safety first.

"Letter carriers are instructed not to deliver to mailboxes and locations they consider having access too difficult or unsafe," the release states.

A Contractors Cargo Company is driving an oversized load - dimensions of 176 feet and 6 inches long, 20 feet wide, 18 feet and 2 inches high and weighing 400,000 pounds - through Colorado from Wyoming today, potentially causing brief lane closures.

Barring weather, the truck is expected to leave Baggs, Wyo., at 7:30 a.m., heading down Highway 13 south to Country Road 5.
