Moffat County School District finds $800k surplus in budget August 26, 2016

To the Editor:
I'm writing in reference to a letter published Saturday, Aug. 25 from Carl K. Chapman. I'm confused.
Haven't the last eight years been run by the Republican Party? I think the chicken house door has been open, and it's time to close the door and bring in new chicks.
They were in charge and they have an insidious agenda. Instead of using the gasoline tax to build roads and keep them free, they'd rather you believe that the gas tax is outmoded. They want to instead sell our highways to corporatists and turn them into a mutual fund for the filthy rich. They want to create toll roads whose toll rate is determined "by the free market" (i.e. let the fatcats set it as high as they want without government interference). Think NFL Stadium financing for highways. You kick in a portion of the cost to build the road, then you pay until perpetuity to use it.
