— About a year ago, Moffat County National Bank - a local bank in the singlewide trailer at 435 Mack Lane - began prep work for a permanent building.

Construction for that building started Aug. 22, as track hoes started digging the basement floor of what bank officials expect be a 12,000-square-foot bank building with an underground level.

"We're excited to get a permanent facility to take care of our needs and our customer needs going into the future," bank manager Dave Fleming said. "When we're done we'll have a nice facility to take us into the future."

Construction is expected to last 10 months, Fleming said. The growth that has carried the bank since its opening in 2005 could prompt more employees.

"If the growth continues by the time the bank opens, I would think we'd need to bring in more people," Fleming said. "Maybe even before then."

Traffic study leads to traffic light

Walt Vanatta, Craig chief of police and traffic engineer, expects the traffic light on West Victory Way and West Sixth Avenue, where the Wal-Mart SuperCenter is located, to go into operation as yield and stop flashers in the third or fourth week of September.

The light will be fully active in the second or third week of October, which coincides with when Wal-Mart plans to begin stocking.

Colorado Department of Transportation required Wal-Mart pay for a traffic study to receive some of its building permits, Vanatta said.

The study concluded a traffic light was required, and Wal-Mart paid for its installation, also, Vanatta added.
