Lt. Gov. O'Brien to discuss early childhood education

— Local residents will have an opportunity to listen and participate in today's discussion about early childhood education with Lt. Gov. Barbara O'Brien and local city, school district and health care officials.

The lieutenant governor will host an early childhood discussion from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. today at the Moffat County School District Building, 775 Yampa Ave.

O'Brien's office announced the visit Wednesday afternoon.

Feedback from today's forum, and others scheduled for coming weeks, will be taken to Gov. Bill Ritter's administration and potentially used in crafting the administration's agenda for the upcoming legislative session, slated to begin in January 2007.

"She really is saying, 'Hey, what can I take back to insert into the discussion,'" O'Brien spokesman Wil Alston said. "She wants to hear what we as an administration should be focused on."

Alston said O'Brien will also make remarks during the forum.

O'Brien will also appear later tonight, from 6 to 8 p.m., for an early childhood education forum at the Steamboat Grand Resort Hotel and Conference Center, 2300 Mt. Werner Rd., in Steamboat Springs.

Today's forums are the first in a series of other discussions scheduled in Pueblo, Colorado Springs, Grand Junction, Fort Collins and Greeley in coming weeks.
