History meeting scheduled for Saturday

DOW public meeting on elk herds

The Colorado Division of Wildlife is interested in hearing from the public about management of two elk herds in Northwest Colorado.

A planning meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at the Moffat County Fairgrounds pavilion, 640 East Victory Way.

Public input is critical for revising the Data Analysis Unit that plan population objectives and set goals for male to female ratios within the populations.

Units that cover the Bear's Ears herd will be discussed between 6 and 7 p.m., with the Cold Spring/Douglas Mountain herd units under discussion between 7 and 8 p.m.

The Bear's Ears herd is the second largest migratory herd in North America, and the Cold Spring/Douglas mountain herd is a quality unit with some of the most sought after tags in Colorado.
