Craig Forty-four women golfers stepped on to the Yampa Valley Golf Course Wednesday for the Rally For the Cure competition.
Like many golf tournaments, some prizes were at stake.
But that was not why the women participated, said event co-chair Susan Utzinger.
“It is a competition,” she said, “but that is — by far — low on the totem poll on priorities as to why the ladies are out here.”
Rally For a Cure is a nationwide fundraising event, raising money for the Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation and the Moffat County Cancer Society.
“We have several members of our ladies club who are cancer survivors, and all of our lives have been affected by cancer,” Utzinger said as to why people participated. “We all have relatives, friends, mothers, sisters, whoever, who have breast cancer and other cancers. Lots of the ladies play because of the friends and relatives who have had cancer.”
How much the event raised in its eighth year has yet to be determined,
Last year, the event raised more than $2,000, and “I know that we are going to equal that this year,” Utzinger said.

Question of the week
Did the Moffat County School Board make the right decision in replacing MCHS athletic director Rick Penner, who had been considered missing after not being heard from for about a week?
