Craig — Northwest Colorado Volunteer Reserves will hold a New Member Training Aug. 17 and 18 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Yampa Valley Medical Center Conference Room 1.

This training is one of the requirements to become a Northwest Colorado Volunteer Reserves member in order to obtain credentials for deployment to a local, state or national disaster. Participants only need to attend one day of training.

DOW hosts angler roundtable in Meeker

The Colorado Division of Wildlife is hosting an angler roundtable meeting in Meeker 6:30 p.m. today at the Mountain Valley Bank building, 400 West Main St.

Angler roundtables are public meetings designed to provide people who fish the opportunity to discuss DOW management and ask questions and provide suggestions.

Presentations include changes in regulatory definitions of “bait” and “artificial lures,” an update on Elkhead Reservoir fishing since its reopening, and recent efforts to enhance fisheries and habitat.

Wyman’s Burma-Shave Jingle Contest

The Wyman Living History Museum is seeking entries of Burma-Shave type jingles to advertise and promote the museum east of Craig.

Modeled after the 1920s multiple-sign campaign promoting the brushless shaving cream, the museum is looking for creative jingles to be displayed on between three and six signs concluding with a Wyman’s Museum sign.

Any age can submit entries, and the deadline is Sept. 14.

Bookstore, Daily Press hold writing contest

Downtown Books and the Craig Daily Press are sponsoring a second writing contest, also on Harry Potter.

Entries should be final thoughts on book seven, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” and/or final thoughts on the overall series.

The winner will get a $50 dollar gift certificate to Downtown books, and be published in the Craig Daily Press.

All accepted entries will be put on the Daily Press’s Web site, www.craigdailypress.com.

Entries should be no longer than 800 words, and contestants need to be in the Craig Daily Press coverage area. The deadline has been moved back for entries. It is now Aug. 10.
