Fire Board member Tony Maneotis appreciated pictures sent back to Craig by firefighters in Germany looking at a Metz aerial truck being considered for purchase by the Craig Rural Fire Protection District.
At the Thursday fire board meeting, Maneotis called the trip informative, and a good move for the department, as firefighters Shayne Sperry, John Felten and Randy Decker joined Deputy Chief Bill Johnston and Captain K.C. Hume on the fact-finding mission paid for by the German company.
The department will be re----placing a 31-year-old aerial truck in 2007, in part thanks to November's voter-approved mill levy increase.
Three manufacturers are being considered in the aerial truck purchase.
In other business, the fire board approved paying $17,958 in monthly bills and purchasing new printer cartridges from Dell for $827.20.
Firefighter training in Gypsum was approved for members taking classes on flash-over and fire behavior, and the chief's report noted the department's communication equipment has had batteries and chargers replaced with money from a grant.
The department's Hazmat truck received an upgraded hitch certified for towing the Hazmat trailer, and March was a quiet month with no major incidents to report.
During board member reports, John Forgay asked that firefighters responding to calls obey speed limits and traffic control devices on their way to the station.
