The boys were led by two first-place relays and two individual event winners.

The 1,600-meter relay team of Mike McNicol, Sam Weeldreyer, Josh Classen and Jeremy Bird clocked a winning time of 3 minutes, 30.22 seconds.

In the 3,200 relay, McNicol, Jacob Miller, Paul Nelson and Bird ran a first-place time of 8:28.15.

Bird ran a first-place 800 time of 1:59.9, and J.T. Haddan threw the shot put a winning distance of 48 feet, 9 3/4. McNicol came in second in the 1,600 in 4:44.94 and teammate Jacob Miller was right behind him in 4:49.79.

Cory Pike came in second-place in the shot put with 47 feet, 10 1/2 and also second in the discus in 138 feet, 8 inches.

"All around he had a great day," girls coach Todd Trapp said of Pike's performances.

Boys coach Gary Tague was out of town and didn't attend the meet.

Trapp commended both Pike and Haddan.

"Those two really had it going," Trapp said. "We as coaches think they are climbing the ladder, and will be at or near the top three in regionals."

The 800 relay team of Classen, Tucker Bilodeau, Weeldreyer and Drew Turner placed fourth in a time of 1:34.61.

For the girls, the 800 sprint medley team of Melissa Blackstun, Kylie Bauman, Erin Urbanoski and Alicia Nelson came in first-place in a time of 1:54.86. Urbanoski also posted a fourth-place long jump of 15 feet, 1 3/4 inches.

Nelson placed first in the 800 in 2:22.65, Urbanoski second in the 100 in 13.59, and the 3,200 relay team of Jeacey Robinson, Megan Knez, Alisha Stephenson and Amber Suits placed third in 11:15.85.

Myiah Bengston threw the shot put 30 feet, 8 inches for fourth place, and Robinson ran the 1,600 in 5:57.47 for fifth place.

In the high jump, Markie Workman cleared 4 feet, 8 inches for a fifth-place finish.

"Overall, our girls team did pretty good," Trapp said. "The only thing is that there are a couple of teams in our league ahead of us, and we have to look at closing that gap. But yeah, placing fifth out of 15 is pretty good."

MCHS hosts their only meet of the year Friday for the Clint Wells Invitational.

"We are still doing some tough workouts," Trapp said. "I only look at these kids to get better from here on out."
