That's the sort of information homeopathic veterinarian Marg Kourlis, of Craig, will cover Saturday during a Humane Society of Moffat County pet first aid workshop.

The workshop, which will take place at the Moffat County Fairgrounds, is geared toward pet first-response in the case of an emergency or to prevent the pet from needing to go to the veterinarian all together, said Mary Blakeman, Humane Society of Moffat County president.

"The idea is what can you do to help your pet in the first few minutes until you can get them to the veterinarian," Blakeman said.

The first class, which is geared toward dogs and cats, begins at 10 a.m., costs $15 and is located in the area under the grand stands.

Blakeman said participants should not bring their dogs or cats.

The second class, which runs from 2 to 4 p.m., is geared towards horses and costs $25. Pet owners are encouraged to bring their horses.

Residents can take both classes for a reduced price of $35.

Proceeds from the workshop go toward the Humane Society.

The Humane Society helps area residents with pet medical costs, food in emergency situations, provides reduced costs for spaying and neutering animals and the transfer of animals to other facilities.

Kourlis will address wellness issues during both classes about vertebrae alignment to keep animals in good health.

While she will teach both classes, she said horses are her speciality.

"Hopefully it'll be a fun time," Blakeman said. "We're excited about it."
