- Senior Jaime Montes had never before been camping. Now, just a few days off a weeklong camping trip, he’s ready to go again. “It was a hard-to-forget experience because it was gorgeous,” Montes said. Montes was one of 13 Moffat County High School students who spent three days and four nights in the Grand Canyon, followed by two days of mountain biking and rock climbing in Moab, Utah, in March.

- When he approached the camp on horseback, one student thought he was a moose. “There’s a moose,” senior Klein Nielson called out from under his sleeping bag. As the horse footsteps grew louder, it became apparent it wasn’t a moose. “Where’s the moose?” the Havasupai Indian said in drawn-out, accented English. The Indian was just passing through the Moffat County High School students’ camp in the Grand Canyon. The fact that it was midnight and the Indian was on horseback was commonplace for him.
