John Richard Noland

John Richard Noland, 76, of Baggs, Wyo., died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006, at Sandrock Ridge Care & Rehab in Craig after a lengthy illness.

He was born July 17, 1930, in Breeds, Ill., the son of Harlow and Mary Anna Childers Noland. He attended schools in Cuba, Ill., and Craig.

On June 13, 1953, he married Bonnie Lee Allred in Vernal, Utah. She preceded him in death on Oct. 27, 2004, in Rock Springs, Wyo.

Mr. Noland had worked as a linotype operator for the Empire Courier in Craig. He had also been employed for Mt. Fuel Gas Company at Powder Wash, and also for the museum and cemetery in Savery, Wyo.

Mr. Noland served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

His interests were playing cards, bowling, water skiing, war history, model trains and his grandchildren.

Survivors include one son, David Noland; his wife, Debbie, of Rock Springs; three daughters, Brenda Updike and husband, Lynn, of Baggs, Wyo., Susan Mann and husband, Andy, of Rock Springs, Wyo., and Terri Woodward and husband, Eddie, of Baggs, Wyo.; three brothers, Dean Noland and wife, Mary, of Albion, Ind., Jim Noland of Montrose and Jerry Noland and wife, Gloria, of Craig; two sisters, Jean Moore and husband, Rex, of Sun City West, Ariz., and Mavis Hess and husband, Dick, of Collbran; sister-in-laws, Shirley Noland of Bouse, Ariz., and Pat Noland of Grand Junction; 13 grandchildren, Dustin Updike and wife Andrea, Dennis Updike and wife Chrissy, Lacy Updike, Rose Longacre and husband Mike, Kathy Marsden and husband Damien, Ben Updike, Tyler Mann (currently serving an LDS mission in Rochester New York), Tyson Mann, Kaylee Mann, Brandon Noland, Brent Noland, Tia Noland, and Chelsea Cortez; eight great-grandchildren, Sam, Ryan, Julia, Brayden, Austin, Taylor, Sawyer and Alex; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bonnie; brothers Bob Noland and wife, Shirley, Archie Noland and wife, Pat, and two infant brothers Jack and Harlow.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006, at the Baggs LDS Chapel in Baggs, Wyo., where friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Graveside military honors and interment will take place in the Reader Cemetery in Savery, Wyo.

Fox Funeral Home in Rock Springs, Wyo., is in charge of arrangements.
