Letter to the Editor: Thanks for help with mud volleyball

The Craig Chamber of Commerce would like to thank everyone who helped make this year's Mud Splash mud volleyball tournament a success.

Two important things were accomplished this year: We raised nearly $1,500, which will be used to help beautify our community, and participants and spectators alike had a terrific time.

We'd like to thank the Moffat County Parks and Recreation Department, Tri-State Equipment and Craig Fire/Rescue for preparing the site and making sure the volleyball pits were nice and messy. Also, thanks to Sue Graler and Tammie Thompson-Booker for volunteering their Saturday as referees -- a dangerous job in that the referees almost always end up in the mud. Kester Jewelry donated incredible trophies that were awarded to the top three teams and will look great on someone's mantle.

We certainly couldn't have had such a successful day without the help of Lisa Balstad and Bryce Jacobson, who ran the brackets and kept the tournament organized and on schedule.

Finally, none of it would have been possible without the businesses who sponsored teams and those who played -- they kept a dirty game clean, pitched in whenever help was needed and most rewarding of all, had fun.

The event was exactly what we'd hoped it would be -- a unique activity that entire families enjoyed. It wasn't clean, but all those who came out gave it the feel, as they do every year, of a family gathering with a touch of competition mixed in.

We're looking forward to doing it again next year -- it's not too early to start eyeing prospective team members.
