Coordinating an event that will draw tourists to town takes months of planning and organization, and the time has come to plan for 2007 events in Moffat County.
Next year's events will be the primary topic of conversation Tuesday during a workshop hosted by the Moffat County Tourism Association at the Museum of Northwest Colorado, 590 Yampa Ave. Agencies planning to request funding from MCTA are invited to attend the workshop with director Shelly Flannery.
"There are some changes in funding guidelines that people need to know about," Flannery said. "We will be discussing what qualifies for funding, and how to find alternative sources if you are not fitting within the guidelines."
Funding for tourism-related events is broken down into two categories this year, Flannery said. Requests will fall under either advertising, or project and event development.
Organizations must apply to receive funding.
Grand Olde West Days, Whittle the Wood, and the Moffat County Fair are a few of the events that MCTA provides funding to.
MCTA advertising money has paid for such things as brochures for the museum, a dining and lodging guide of the area, and promotional brochures for events like the Little Britches Rodeo.
Funding applications are being accepted until Dec. 31. Applications can be picked up at the MCTA office, located inside the museum.
MCTA will score the applications in January. The organization will notify applicants of the money they will receive by Feb. 10.
The Tuesday workshop will include a morning session from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. An afternoon session is scheduled for 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Anyone unable to attend the workshops should call Flannery at 824-2335 or 629-3685.
