Charles Benson Hayes
Charles B. Hayes, 77, of Grand Junction, passed away Friday at Mantey Heights Rehabilitation Center. He was born Sept. 26, 1929, in LeCross, Kan., the son of Charles and Genevieve Mlinek Hayes. Charles married Dorothy Stice on Oct. 7, 1977, in Grand Junction. He was employed as a machinist for the Blanchart Machine Co. and later Emerson Music Co.
Charles was a member of the Moose Lodge 270. This year, he received the Pilgrimship, which is the highest degree. Charles and Dorothy loved fishing at the Vega Reservoir, and Charles also enjoyed golf.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Hayes; daughter, Leslie (John) Erwin, of Grand Junction; stepdaughter, Sylvia (Bud) Schmidt of Salt Lake City, Utah; brother, Larry (Betty) Hayes of Evergreen; daughter-in-law, Linda Hayes of Albuquerque, N.M.; grandchildren, Elizabeth Hayes and Jessica Erwin; step-grandchildren, Phillip (Christina) Schmidt and Brian (Audrey) Schmidt; five step-great-grandchildren; three nieces, Jennifer Story of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and Debbie Sherman Hurst and Christine Welch, both of Craig; and nephew, Jason Hayes of Lakewood.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Darlene Sherman; brother, Darrell Hayes; and son, Ronald Hayes.
A funeral is at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006, at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. A visitation will be on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. A reception will follow the service at the Moose Lodge.
