Moffat County Neighbor: John Schram

Moffat County Neighbor

November 2, 2006

Name: John Schram

Age: 77

Occupation: I'm retired. I owned a motel, liquor store and worked in trucking. I'm like a gypsy, I like going down the road.

What should your business card say you do? I never have owned one.

When did you move to Moffat County and what brought you here? In January of 1955, I came here to cool off. It was the most hot and miserable summer you ever saw in southwest Kansas in '54.

Describe your morning routine. I get up, get your paper if it's here on time, and it generally is around 5 o'clock. I read it, make breakfast, then read The Denver Post. Then I don't know. I try to get in a walk.

How would your friends describe you? I wonder if I have any friends. Different ones in different ways.

Have you ever had a book change your life? What was it and why? The big book of Alcoholics Anonymous and the Bible.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? A farmer

If you could invite any four people over for dinner, who would they be and what would you serve? I'd have to hate them pretty bad, my cooking is not that good.

What are the three things you can't live without? Water, air and food

What was your most embarrassing moment? I don't know, stuff like that floats off my back like water off a duck's back.

Which super hero would you be? I'm happy where I am.

What's the worst reason you've received/given for breaking up with someone? It's been so long since I've dated I don't know.

If you had to give up one of your five senses, which would it be? My hearing is almost gone anyway, that'd probably be it.

What band/performer would you stand in line to get tickets for? Wade Price

What music, book or movie are you ashamed to admit you love? Nothing

What would you do if you won $10 million? Give most of it away, mainly to my kids and grandkids.

What do you think about the governor race? I'm not crazy about (Bob) Beauprez, but I don't vote for Democrats. I think he's running for president in the long run.
