What is your job title? Eighth-grade math teacher

Number of years in profession: 16 years

How did you get into this profession? I had a high school geometry teacher that was awesome and wouldn't give up on me when I wanted to give up on myself. I love math and found how good it feels to help someone.

What is the most challenging part of your job? Getting kids and parents to realize how valuable a good education is. Also getting students to practice math by doing their homework consistently.

What is the most rewarding part of your job? Being with kids and helping them to learn and better themselves and working with an awesome team of teachers here at the middle school.

Briefly describe your most heartwarming teaching/student experience. There have been many! I always enjoy it when a student, "I get this!" I also enjoy when students return and tell me that I really helped them understand math.

What is a teaching tool or method that is unique to you? I don't know as if I have any unique methods. I continually add different methods of presenting concepts. I try to present concepts using various methods to reach all of the different learning styles of students.

What is one thing about your profession that you wish the public at large understood? That a child's education doesn't stop at school -- parents are a big part of supporting and encouraging their student with their education. And how difficult it is for a student in math when they don't have their addition/subtraction/multiplication/division facts memorized.

What are your favorite activities when you are not at school? Spending time with my family, camping, sewing, scrapbooking, reading, cooking and watching my kids play sports.

What do you like most about Craig Middle School? This age of kids is great to work with. Also the staff -- they are awesome and really work together to benefit the kids.
