Pastor Jason Haskell is looking forward to the five-year anniversary of the New Creation Church that he and his wife, Tracey, pioneered in 2001.

After spending two years at a small storefront location at Yampa Avenue and Victory Way, the church moved to its present location in the Centennial Mall three years ago.

A spin-off of the parent church in Glenwood Springs, the New Creation Church is well-received in Craig.

"Things are going well at the mall," Haskell said. "We get quite a few walk-ins and visitors to town that join our services."

Between 65 and 70 worshippers attend the church on Sundays.

Haskell said the attendees are a diverse crowd, ranging from young folks to older couples.

The anniversary of the church holds a special meaning for the Haskells. Their daughter, Rachael, was born two days before the first service in 2001. Daughter Brooke was with the couple when they moved to Craig.

Haskell said that he and his family plan to stay in Craig long-term, and they are glad to be here.

His vision is to one day get the church its own building, as goal that will take time and money to accomplish.

A special anniversary celebration is planned for Monday and Tuesday. Reverend Mark Brazee from Tulsa, Okla., will be preaching at the church at 7 p.m. both evenings.

An additional anniversary celebration service is scheduled for Sunday, June 4. Pastor Mark Bintliff from the Glenwood Springs church will minister at the church.

Services start at 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
