On April 27, the eighth-grade girls at Craig Middle School were able to attend the annual Girls to Women Conference at the Holiday Inn. The purpose of this conference is to stimulate the girls' interest in a variety of professional careers. The conference had a great start with inspirational talks by Sari Cobb and Dr. Carolyn Gochee. The girls then listened to guest presenters discuss aspects of their careers. A delicious lunch was served to 84 girls by a smiling Holiday Inn staff. During the afternoon, the girls had a "Reality Check" by playing a financial game invented by Renee Chason. The game helped to reinforce the idea of good career choices. Before leaving the conference in the afternoon, the girls were shown a slide show of their day.
This annual conference would not be possible without grant money received from the Women's Foundation of Colorado and the Yampa Valley Community Foundation. We would like to express our gratitude to the following people and businesses: guest speakers, Dr. Pamela Kinder, Terri Jourgensen, Nancy Sadvar, Chris Currie, Storm Fallon, Bobbie Peed, Susan Johnston, Dorothy Brown, Cyme Browning, Rhonda Walmer, Deanna Ramone, Mika Ough, Gochee, Amanda Martin, Rebecca Hopkins, Emily Markey, Sandra Kruczek and Dr Lindee Brackett, thanks for giving us your time. Thanks also to The Copy Shop's Computer Corner for loan of a Toshiba Laptop, to Boy-Ko Supply for help with supplies, the Holiday Inn for space and to Gochee for the loan of her digital camera. Without you this conference wouldn't be possible.
