To the editor:
Somebody once said that the trouble with retirement is that you never get a day off! One of Craig's best is retiring this year, and the students and the staff at Craig Intermediate School are going to be sad to see him go. Mr. Steve Schaefer, after spending a lifetime in the service of children through education, will be leaving the profession to pursue the dream that he has earned.
As a new principal at Craig Intermediate School just last year, I have been fortunate to get to know Mr. Schaefer. He is the type of guy who expects the best out of people. He holds children to high standards and does so with a great sense of humor and the highest of professional ethics. So, when Steve leaves our building this year, it will be with a mixture of sadness and joy that we see him go. He has meant the world to us as his colleagues, has had an impact hundreds of lives and will continue to do that in retirement, as well.
In addition to Steve's retirement, the community and our school will be sad to see the departure of Scot and Toni Brown, two teachers who have made great impacts on students at CIS and at East Elementary. Scot will be taking his family to Montrose to become the new assistant principal at the high school there.
A time for all things -- that's what it says in Ecclesiastes. To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven. A time to be born, a time to die, a time to plant and to pick that which is planted. A time to heal, and a time to build up. A time to laugh, and a time to dance. The laughing and the dancing are the fun parts, so when it comes to saying goodbye to these folks, that's what I will do because I certainly can't sing. Thanks to Steve, Scot and Toni. Godspeed, we will miss you.
Principal, Craig Intermediate School
