Briefs for March 16
A judge on Wednesday gave a Craig man charged with methamphetamine distribution, assault and motor vehicle theft until next month to consider a plea agreement.
If Shaun Philip Sanchez, 26, of Craig, accepts the deal from the 14th Judicial District Attorney's Office, he would serve 10 years in prison.
Sanchez was one of 15 people charged in a major meth sweep in December. At the time of the sweep, Sanchez was in jail on charges of motor vehicle theft, domestic violence and assault. Police had arrested him in early December after a four-hour standoff at his home in Craig.
Sanchez appeared in 14th Judicial District Court on Wednesday for a plea hearing, but his attorney, public defender Sheryl Uhlmann, asked the judge for a continuance in the case.
"He's just not comfortable entering a plea," Uhlmann said.
Chief Judge Michael O'Hara continued Sanchez's case to April 3.
O'Hara said he expects Sanchez to accept the plea at the hearing next month or plead not guilty to the charges.
