Cocaine seized, Steamboat man charged
The Greater Routt and Moffat Narcotic Enforcement Team drug task force assisted agents from Denver Drug Enforcement Agencies in an investigation that resulted in the seizure of more than 1 pound of cocaine.
As a result of the investigation, Theodore G. Kahn, 50, of Steamboat Springs, was arrested and has been charged with possession of 1/2 pound of cocaine. Kahn was booked into Routt County Jail and posted bond.
The remaining 1/2 pound of cocaine involved in the seizure has been placed into evidence and is scheduled for destruction.
Task force commander Dusty Schulze said the estimated street value for the cocaine seized in this case is about $25,000.
Theater group looking for board members
Craig's local theater organization is looking for people interested in being board members for the soon-to-be-re-named organization.
Cindy Chotvacs is leading the move to create a formal organization to be eligible for grants as a nonprofit theater group. She said the group is moving slowly, going over bylaws and considering a name.
The group is searching for a shorter name than the Craig Performing Arts Project that it is using.
A few of the names being considered include Bootstrap, Tumbleweed and A Class Act productions.
"The last meeting went well," Chotvacs said about the Thursday gathering. "A lot of different people are coming to each meeting. It's good to see so much interest. We'll probably try to pick officers at the next meeting."
She encourages anyone interested to attend the March 23 meeting set for 7 p.m. at The Center of Craig, 600 Yampa Ave.
The group also is looking ahead to a summer performance that Chotvacs hopes will include many actors. Play rehearsals will be twice a week after a play is selected.
Call Chotvacs at 824-5116.
Homeschool drama club plans spring show
"Heavenly Hollywood," the Homeschool Speech and Drama Club, will present three one-act plays for its spring production on March 23 and 24 in the Craig Middle School auditorium, 915 Yampa Ave.
The 12-member club is in its third year, and director Bonnie Reiman sees the production as "a big task for our small group."
Reiman selected three plays from the 1940s. The show will open with the cowboy drama, "Western Night," by Robert Finch and Betty Smith, followed by Spranger Barry's comedy, "Cupid's Bow." The production will end with the biggest act of the night, the romantic mystery, "Fog on the Bay," by Clarice Wardall.
Call Reiman at 826-4427.
