Dorothy Nelson

Dorothy May Hoth was born on March 9, 1928, in Wheatland, Wyo., to John "Jack" and Mattie (Hughes) Hoth. Dorothy spent most of her younger years on Cedar Springs Ranch near Maybell. She started school in Craig and later graduated from high school in Buena Vista.
In Buena Vista, she met George Fowler, and they were married in late 1946. They later moved to Craig. George and Dorothy had three children -- Janet, Jack and Jess. She later married LaVan W. Nelson and moved to Idaho. They had two children, Hannah and Clifford. She lived in Idaho for 15 years and moved back to Craig in 1983.
In her early years, she worked as a waitress. In Idaho, she worked as an alcohol counselor and taught children on an Indian reservation for a time. She loved reading, writing and gardening, and was an excellent cook.
Dorothy died on Sunday, March 5, 2006, at the Sandrock Ridge Care & Rehab.
She is survived by her daughters Janet (Smokey) Gledhill, of Craig, and Hannah Kay (Richard) Colwell, of Cañon City; sons Jack (Eileen) Fowler, of Prescott, Ariz., Jess Fowler, of Tucson, Ariz., and Clifford (Carol) Nelson, of Steamboat Springs; grandchildren Vicki Gledhill, Laura Quale, Jennifer Tapia, Kim Grippe, Joshua Fowler, Connie Kay Nelson, Shelie Marie Lovell, Samantha Rose Lovell, Julie Livermore, Amy Fowler, Jessica Fowler and Michael Nelson; seven great-grandchildren; and sister Sally Haskins, of Maybell.
Her parents, sisters Jonnie Weber and Janie Hoth, and her brother Bud Hoth preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at Grant Mortuary. Interment followed in the Craig Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Sandrock Ridge Care & Rehab in care of Grant Mortuary.
