Students win Elks grants

Several local students have been awarded scholarship grants from the Craig Elks Lodge through their participation in the Colorado Elks Association Education Grant Program.

The top award recipients and their schools are:

Ashley Stutsman, first, Moffat County High School, $1,000;

Alicia Hall, second, Hayden High School, $750;

Chelsea Fry, third, Hayden High School, $500;

Honorable mention awards are:

Eric Wellman, Moffat County High School, $250;

Kendel Fawcet, Moffat County High School, $250;

Jenna Cook, Moffat County High School, $250;

The Elks Grant Association also has awarded two additional grants of $500 each to Mariah Lee Doolin and Alyssa Pierson, both Hayden High School.

Elks note: Elks bingo is 6:15 p.m. every Friday.

Craig Book Club will meet at 9:30 March 9

The Craig Book Club will meet at 9:30 a.m. March 9 at Serendipity Coffee Shop. "The Sixth Lamentation" by Wiliam Broderick will be reviewed by Emilyn Young. For information, call Susie at 824-1956.

Students raising funds for trip to Washington

Students who are raising money for a trip to Washington, D.C., will have booths set up in Centennial Mall from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. They will be selling garage-sale items and baked goods. Donations to help fund the trip also will be accepted.

Cancer support group meets third Thursdays

The Moffat County Cancer Support Group meets at 7 p.m. the third Thursday of each month at the VNA building on Russell Street. Jessica German will be the guest speaker on March 16. Call Marilyn Bouldin at 824-5459.

Craig Poetry Group meets second Monday

The Craig Poetry Group meets at 4 p.m. the second Monday of each month at The Bookstore at Serendipity. Newcomers and used-to-comers are welcome. Call Cheryl Miller at 824-3990.

Craig Boys & Girls Club planning family dinner

The Boys & Girls Club of Craig will hold a family dinner at 5 p.m. March 10. The dinner is for members and their families. The dinner includes chicken spaghetti, homemade rolls, fruit and cake. Call 826-0411 to RSVP.

Hunter education class set for March 13 to 17

The Colorado Division of Wildlife will sponsor a hunter education class from March 13 to 17 at the Bell Tower Building on the Colorado Northwest Community College campus in Craig. Classes run from 6 to 9 p.m. Call 824-3046 or 272-3238.
