Humane Society asks residents to photograph pets for calendar contest

The Humane Society of Moffat County wants to see your best shot of your pet.

"We're looking for the county's cutest pets," member Patty Peters said.

The organization is again hosting the PetMates Calendar contest in search of the county's 12 cutest pets for the 2007 calendar. Community members may submit photos of their pets for consideration.

Sandy Feeney of the Humane Society said the goal is to raise money to care for animals without homes.

This is the second year for the PetMates Calendar will be published, and Humane Society members hope to have the new publication on sale by Oct. 1.

"This is one of our major fundraisers for the year," Peters said. "It also lets people show off their pets."

Feeney said the group sold about 300 calendars last year. Some of the leftover ones were given to residents of Sunset Meadows.

Local veterinarians will choose the top 24 pets from all the entries.

Pictures of the finalists will be displayed at the Moffat County Fair from Aug. 7 to 12. Community members will vote for the 12 winners by placing money in jars for their favorites.

Pet owners may also place their pet's birth or adoption date on a calendar square for $2 each, or add a memorial date to Rainbow Bridge page, also $2 for each listing.

The PetMates selected will be photographed by Craig Daily Press Editor Michelle Perry.

Runner-up photos will be used on a collage page in the calendar.
