JoAnn Marlotte: Parents, teachers should teach etiquette

To the editor:
My family has been coming to Craig since the early 1990s, and we have attended many Grand Old West Days events. I don't remember seeing so much disrespect for the American flag as I saw this past weekend. The schools and parents need to be proactive in teaching respect for our flag.
Young people need to learn to stand as she passes, remove their hats and place their hands over their hearts. The flag represents the freedom they enjoy and the honors those who have fallen to give them freedom. As I watched the crowd, unfortunately, it was the younger set who were so disrespectful. The worst disrespect was on Monday when the crowd wouldn't clear the street for the (Veterans of Foreign Wars) color guard to pass.
As I walked to my car, I also noticed that some of the city and county buildings were not flying our flag at half-staff to honor all of our veterans. Shame on the city of Craig.

Question of the week
Should the Craig Chamber of Commerce revise its State of the County attendance policy to allow people to hear speakers without paying for a ticket?
