Iris V. Hoekstra, nee Sweeney, 83, was the beloved wife of the late Bernard; loving mother of Barney F. Hoekstra and Pamela (James) Lowery; proud grandmother of James, Douglas and Todd; dear sister of Eugenia (the late Harvey) Beaver and the late Frances (Bill) Chambers; fond aunt of Becky (Steve) Klein and Pat Chambers; and great-aunt of Heidi and Mark Klein.

A funeral was at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 25, 2006, at Morgan Park Presbyterian Church in Chicago.

Interment was at Chapel Hills Gardens South Cemetery. Visitation was from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday, July 24, 2006, at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home in Oak Lawn.

Memorial donations may be made to Morgan Park Presbyterian Church.

Iris was born and raised on a cattle ranch outside of Craig. She was working with the Red Cross in Denver during World War II when Bernard was passing through on his way home. They were married at Morgan Park Presbyterian Church in 1946. She received her master's degree and taught elementary school in Chicago and Palos Park for 25 years. She was very proud of her teaching and her family.
