Two local travel agents recently earned certification as destination specialists for some popular vacation spots.

Rob and Kelley Sexton, co-owners of Magic Carpet Travel of Craig, recently completed programs that certify them as specialists for two Pacific Ocean locations.

The couple both earned Hawaiian certification in March, and Kelley completed training specifically for the island of Kauai. In January, Rob completed specialization for New Zealand, where he lived for two years.

His certification process included passing six comprehensive exams covering visitor facts.

Kelley recently spent five days on the island of Kauai studying and investigating the island's tourist-oriented features. She went zip-lining while she was there.

"(Kauai) is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been," Kelley Sexton said.

She completed a 45-question test from the visitors' bureau, on which she had to score an 85 percent.

The Hawaiian certification included an eight modular online instruction course and a test requiring a score of 90 percent.

Kelley said the couple likes to do additional training to better serve their customers. In all, Kelley has eight certifications and Rob has three.

"We really try to get to know our clients and give them something extra," Kelley said.
