Moffat libraries seeking assistant director
At its regular meeting Monday, the Board of Trustees decided to begin advertising for an assistant director for the libraries in Moffat County.
The board wants to see whether it can find qualified applicants who are experienced in library automation and network architecture, and who have two to three years of library experience. Library Director Donna Watkins has two years before retirement, and the board is testing whether a replacement might come from an assistant director who could move up at that time.
Watkins said the applicants should be a good fit for the staff and the community.
The county human resource department will likely advertise the position on job lines throughout Colorado.
In the Craig branch report, the library reported that the three Thursday morning story-hours held in City Park helped boost attendance to 351 participants in June, an increase of 137 from May attendance.
The libraries' Literacy Festival will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. July 27 at the Craig branch with nine booths that will include puppet shows and storytelling, as well as an obstacle course and a teen safari-hunt. The Humane society will have animals for adoption, and the police and fire departments will teach children about fire and stranger safety.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars will hold a flag-raising ceremony, complete with a 21-gun salute, and staff and volunteers will serve hot dogs, popcorn and root beer floats.
At the Dinosaur branch, the summer reading program is under way with 10 children, three teens and three adults registered. Watkins said the county commissioners are hoping to have the parking lot paved sometime this summer.
The Maybell branch saw an increase in visitors because of a number of visits from firefighters and bicyclists in the area.
The libraries' cash handling policy also was discussed, and a policy was adopted to help control funds handled by the libraries.
The board approved a plan to provide the Dinosaur and Maybell branches with high-speed Internet service from WildBlue at a cost of $69.95 per month, with an initial cost of $299 for equipment, providing they are not limited to one machine at each site. Installation will be free if the service is ordered before the end of August.
