Chamber waking up an old favorite -- breakfast

The Craig Chamber of Commerce is hoping community members will rise and shine for a revived early morning event.

The Chamber board is bringing the Wake-Up Craig breakfast back, with the first event after nine years scheduled for 6:47 to 7:47 a.m. Thursday at the Craig Holiday Inn, 300 S. Colorado Highway 13.

Corriveau said the unusual start and stop times are a way for the time to stick in people's minds.

"It was a really popular event just because of the timing," Chamber Director Christina Currie said. "For a lot of business people, it was perfect."

Jeff Corriveau, a Chamber board member heading up the effort, said the Wake-Up Craig events began in 1983 or 1984. They fizzled out about nine years ago.

"It was a really good deal for our Chamber members and for members at large in the community to network and get together once every quarter," Corriveau said.

Currie said the breakfasts will be held in January, April, July and October.

Local businesses will rotate serving as the sponsors and hosts of the event. Sponsors provide door prizes and off set the cost of breakfast. Hosts act as "worker bees," Currie said, checking guests in and serving the meal.

Sponsors and hosts then speak to those who attend about what changes are taking place in their companies or organizations.

"It's just a nice time to network and see people and hear about what's going on in your community," Currie said.

This quarter's sponsor is the Holiday Inn, and the host is the Chamber. Currie said the Chamber will introduce its beautification project at the breakfast.

Corriveau said that in the past, between 100 and 125 people would show up to Wake-Up Craig.

"If we can get that many, we'll be tickled to death," he said.

Anyone is welcome at the event. The cost is $5 and includes a breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, hash browns, juice and coffee.

Those who wish to attend are asked to RSVP by 5 p.m. Wednesday by calling the Chamber at 824-5689.

Any Chamber members who want to serve as a sponsor or host should also call the Chamber.
