Commercial center delayed but still a go

Developer must get approval from the Colorado Department of Transportation for access road

A 10-unit commercial center planned on a site across from Family Dollar on Pershing Street is in the works despite some delays.

Ren Martyn, of Martyn Development LLC in Steamboat Springs, purchased the lot in the summer with plans to build a 9,200-square-foot commercial center.

Martyn said he had hoped to begin construction on the center in the fall, with a November opening date.

But construction won't begin until this spring, he said Friday.

Martyn must get approval from the Colorado Department of Transportation to build a second access road to the center from Pershing Street.

He said he hopes to have the final approval from the department within 45 days.

Martyn has not leased any units in the development.

Each unit will be about 920 square feet with a garage door in the back.

The tentative name of the commercial center is "Craig Merc--antile."

The development will be Mar--tyn's first commercial property in Craig. He owns a rental home in Craig and commercial buildings in Steamboat and Florida.

New owners at barbecue restaurant

Wild West Bar-B-Q has new owners and a new name.

Danny and Teri Griffith took over the restaurant, 210 E. Victory Way, last month from Joy and Gabriel Daigle.

The restaurant now is called J.W. Snack's Gulf Coast Bar and B-Que.

J.W. Snack was Danny Griffith's great-grandfather. Snack owned a saloon in Indiana about 100 years ago.

The restaurant will have the original cash register from Snack's Indiana establishment as well as some pictures of the saloon, Griffith said.

The Griffiths don't plan to take anything off the menu anytime soon.

But they do plan to add some menu items, he said.

They also plan to revamp the kitchen and bathrooms, adding a bar and installing more TV sets, he said.
