Dave W. Craig died Jan. 13, 2006, in Grand Junction of complications from pneumonia. He was 93.
Craig was a 30-year resident of Grand Junction.
He was born on Oct. 21, 1912, in St. Paul, Ark., to Leonard and Elizabeth Thomas Craig.
He spent his childhood in Trail, Okla. and graduated from high school in Leedey, Okla.
After his mother died, his father married Pearl Hughes.
Craig married Frances Bohrer on March 9, 1939, in Vernal, Utah. They previously lived in Uravan; Riverton, Wyo.; and Maybell. He worked as a farmer and mill worker.
Craig served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945 as a medic with the 151st Infantry Division in the South Pacific. He received the Bronze Star, Bronze Arrow, Victory Medal and various ribbons for his service.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4663. He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and the Denver Broncos.
Craig family members said they recall many funny stories about him.
One story was when his wife, Frances, was trying to control their brood of seven children. She would become frustrated and yell to Craig, "Speak to your kids!" And he would lower his newspaper and calmly say, "Hello, kids."
When magnate Malcolm Forbes died, the humble and long-lived Craig remarked to his son, "I win."
