Robert S. 'Tommy' Thompson (1920-2005)

Robert S. "Tommy" Thompson, of Laramie, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2005, at Ivinson Memorial Hospital. He was 85.

Thompson was born June 22, 1920, in Butte, Neb., the son of Edgar and Mae (Shaw) Thompson.

He received his schooling in Burke, S.D., and then went to work as a printer.e married Edna Salter on June 10, 1940, in Giltner, Neb.
In 1944, he entered the U.S Army Air Corps to serve during World War II and was discharged in 1945.e returned to his printing work in Nebraska and Colorado, thenoved to Laramie, Wyo., in 1949, when he went to work for the Laramie Boomerang as a mechanical superintendent and printer until his retirement. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Loyalrder of Moose Lodge No. 390 and the Centennial Men's Club.e enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Edna (Salter) Thompson of Laramie; a son, James Thompson of Cheyenne; a brother, David Thompson of Laramie; a sister, Helen Grimes of Donna, Texas; five grandchildren, Duane Trost of Laramie, Peter and Steven Thompson of Cheyenne, Jane Trost of Eugene, Ore., and Donna Trost of Bane Bridge Island, Wash.;hree great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert Jr.; a daughter, Sandra; and three brothers, Paul, Carroll and Elmer and his brother-in-law, E.R. "Buck" Salter.

Memorial services were held Thursday, Dec.8 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Lillie officiating.emorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
