Moffat County sheriff candidate Jerry Hoberg announced Thursday he has decided on the person who will be his undersheriff if voters elect him in November.
Hoberg said sheriff's Sgt. Rick Holford is his pick for undersheriff.
Hoberg, who is now Sheriff Buddy Grinstead's undersheriff, said he isn't required to make a decision about undersheriff before the election.
Hoberg said he wanted to announce the decision eight months in advance of the election to quell speculation about whom he would pick.
Hoberg said he chose Holford because of the sergeant's experience.
Holford has been at the sheriff's office for 26 years.
"And he's really well known in the community," Hoberg said.
Holford said whether Ho----berg announced his decision, he planned to campaign for Hoberg.
Holford is a member of Hoberg's campaign committee.
Hoberg is running against sheriff's Sgt. Tim Jantz, who has not announced his choice for undersheriff.
Sheriff's Cpl. Vic Alton also is expected to enter the race for sheriff, but has not made an official announcement.
