Craig residents, thanks for all of your support

To the editor:

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank the community of Craig for being so good to Zoe and me this past year and a half. We have loved living here and really hate to leave. This is a great community. I have been so impressed with every aspect of this community. You all really watch out for each other. COMA is a classic example. When citizens of this community recognized how serious a problem methamphetamine was becoming, you didn't expect community leaders to solve it on their own. Instead, you formed a group to address the problem yourselves. Another great example is the support you provide to children and parents in the community through programs like RAD, Boys and Girls Club, Partners, and Grand Futures. It is amazing to me that a community this size supports such an incredible variety of programs to offer youth good and healthy social opportunities. It has been my privilege to serve on the RAD board and I hope you will continue to support them and the other organizations that serve our youth.

You are also blessed with a great educational system. Zoe has received incredible services from the talented professionals at the school district's Early Childhood Center. Sarah Hepworth, Carol Taylor, Heather Higgins, Robin Kitchen, Toni Tuttle, and Erica Stewart have made such an enormous difference in her young life and have helped her to learn and grow. We are forever in their debt.

Craig is also fortunate to have so many dedicated and professional law enforcement officers, including the Craig Police Department, Moffat County Sheriff's Office, Probation Office, Parole Department and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. I have been pleasantly surprised at how these agencies help each other. There are no territorial squabbles. When one of them needs help, the others chip in enthusiastically. Their teamwork makes each of them better than they would be otherwise.

Finally, we are going to miss the people at the District Attorney's office. They have been family and friends, not just co-workers. They have helped with Zoe, have supported me, have laughed with me and have just been a wonderful support system. By way of clarification, I am not leaving because of money or work load. I will have a similar work load and will be making slightly less money in Glenwood Springs. I am leaving because of philosophical differences in management style and approach to prosecution.
