Judy Patricia Poteet, age 61, of Mangum, passed away at her home Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006.
Judy was born Aug. 18, 1945, to Richard Marion and Allie Jane (Kleckner) McConnell in Hayden. A 1963 graduate of Hayden Union High School, she later received her Master's Degree in Education at the University of Northern Colorado at Greely. She taught 12 years in Colorado.
On Feb. 1, 1979, she married Nolan Poteet in Amarillo, Tex. They moved to Mangum in 1979, from Collbran. Judy was a member of the First United Methodist Church and dedicated 25 years of her life to educating young people in Mangum. One of her greatest desires in her professional life was to "make her students hungry to learn."
Judy was a member of Lady Bugs, E.S.A., past president of the local OEA and NEA and Town Team Softball. Judy's home was like the "animal drop off center of Mangum" for stray dogs and cats.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Nolan on May 9, 2002. Judy is survived by five children, Ryan Morgan and his wife, Michelle of West Point, New York; Sunni Poteet, of Mangum; Susan Poteet and Larry Poteet, of Panhandle, Tex.; Sandy Poteet of Canadian, Tex.; and four grandchildren, Brendan Morgan and Katherine Morgan, of West Point, New York; Jim Smith of New Mexico, and Chelsea Poteet of Panhandle, Tex., and two great grandchildren, along with many other relatives and friends.
A memorial service for Judy Poteet will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27 at the First United Methodist Church of Mangum with Brother Shawn Johnson and Rev. Don Tabberer officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
