Cecil A. Nelson

Cecil Alan Nelson was born on May 24, 1930, in Brighton, Colorado, to Willard R. and Helen (Willmot) Nelson.

Cecil grew up in Brighton, Colo. He married Shirley Thomas on Oct. 16, 1951, in Brighton and to this union six children were born.

After leaving Brighton, they lived in various places, including Denver and Grand Junction.

He brought his family to Steamboat Springs in 1972 and started working for Holsum Bread as a delivery driver until 1978, when they moved to Craig. Cecil became a supervisor for Holsum and was in charge of all the delivery routes. He retired after 20 years of service.

After retiring from Holsum, he worked in the retail sales market. He worked for Samuelson's True Value for five years, and then he worked the last eight years at MJK Sales.

Cecil enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and seeing wildlife around the area. His greatest joy was his family.

He is survived by a daughter, Patricia (Bill) Dugan, of Arkansas; sons Rodney Nelson, of Craig, Rick Nelson ( Mary) Nelson, of Craig, Randy Nelson, of Craig, Andy (Sharon) Nelson, of Grand Junction; 18 grandchildren; 14 great- grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sisters Deanna and Betty; and brothers Joe Nelson, of Craig, Ted Nelson, of Aurora, and Russell Nelson, of Garden Grove, Calif.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Shirley, his son Robert, sisters Vermeda and Majorie, and brother Jim.

Funeral services were held Friday at Grant Mortuary Chapel with Tony St. John officiating. Interment followed in the Craig Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association in care of Grant Mortuary.
