Defense lets down Bulldogs

Moffat County unable to stop Mountain View

GREEN RIVER -- Moffat County was unable to stop Mountain View's top player in the first half and fell to the Buffalos, 72-51, in their second game at the Flaming Gorge Classic in Green River, Wyo., on Friday.

Kyle Bullinger, a 6'6" forward for Mountain View, exploded for 20 points in the first half against the Bulldogs' man-to-man defense.

Bullinger, who has signed an athletic scholarship to play at Weber State University next season, continued to beat the Moffat County defense by catching deep lobs near the basket or backing down his opponent for close turn-around shots in the low block.

"We didn't have anyone who could man up with him and take him out of the game," junior Clark Cleverly said.

Moffat County stayed close to Mountain View in the game's opening minutes as Evan Hertzog hit a jumper and Cleverly followed with a three.

The Bulldogs were down 6-5 before the Buffalos went on a 9-0 run and led 15-7 after one quarter. Moffat County wouldn't get any closer in the game as they trailed 40-22 at the half.

"We came out sluggish and flat," Cleverly said. "Hopefully we can play hard and come out with a win today."

Eli Buckner and Cleverly led Moffat County in scoring with 12 points each. J.T. Hadden and Hertzog both contributed 8 points.

Bullinger led Mountain View with 29 points.

Moffat County will end the tournament against Riverton, Wyo. Today at 3:45 p.m.
