Driving in winter weather isn't Moffat County High School wrestling coach Roman Gutierrez' biggest worry headed into this weekend's Warrior Classic tournament in Grand Junction.
It's a different kind of weather he's fretting over when it comes to his wrestlers.
"Mentally, they're ready," Gutierrez said. "Physically, we have a few who are under the weather."
The Warrior Classic is a tournament that replicates the feeling of the Colorado state wrestling tournament.
"This (tournament) gives a kid an idea of what you have to look forward to," Gutierrez said. "If you can win at this one, you're probably one, two or three in the state."
Seniors Brice Boling and Nick Navratil said the competition will be tough.
"We work hard in practice, and hopefully, that will pay off," Navratil said.
Boling said he is "psyched" for the tournament, but he hopes the rest of his team has their "heads into it."
For the younger guys, Boling said the seniors have to take responsibility for keeping their spirits up.
"You never know when a match could come around that you need them," Boling said.
Gutierrez said because of the tournament's size and the level of competition, the Bulldogs will get a good look at most of their regional opponents, which will give Moffat County the opportunity to see what it needs to work on.
"It'll help us work toward what we need individually to win," Gutierrez said. "Our horses are where we want them to be."
The Bulldogs will begin wrestling 10 a.m. Friday at the Mesa State University campus. The tournament continues at 9 a.m. Saturday.
