David M. Nelson was born on July 30, 1941, in Oakland to Maurice and Beatrice (Taylor) Nelson. He was raised and attended school in Orange County, Calif.
David worked for many years as a police officer for the city of Garden Grove, Calif. Following his retirement, he worked as a security guard at a local mall.
David was a police officer at heart and enjoyed listening to the police scanner and watching "COPS" and other police shows on TV. He had a great sense of humor and was always joking with people.
David married Sandra W. Jones on Nov. 9, 1991, in Westminster, Calif.
They made their home in California and Arkansas before moving to Craig in April 2006.
David died on Dec. 1, 2006, at his home in Craig, following a brief illness.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Nelson, of Craig; daughters, Michelle Nelson of Buena Park, Calif., and Jordana Nelson of Craig; son, Brian Nelson of Buena Park; other children, including Terri Griego of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Tony (Brandy) Brown of Hayden, Bret Brown of Colorado, Thomas Baca of Minnesota, Ace Kelly of Nevada, Patrick Kelly of California; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral was held Dec. 4, 2006, at the Grant Mortuary with Sandy Beran officiating. Special musical selections were "I Can Only Imagine," "Amazing Grace," "Sweetly Broken" and "Footprints."
