Poster contest open

to fifth-graders

The National Arbor Day Foundation and the Colorado Tree Coalition invite fifth-grade classrooms across Colorado to create posters reflecting the theme "Trees are Terrific ... and Forests are, Too!"

The annual contest, sponsored by Toyota, teaches children about the importance of planting and caring for trees.

One winner from each participating school will be entered in a statewide competition, and the winner will advance to the national level.

The Colorado state winner will receive special recognition both locally and at the Colorado Tree Coalition Annual Awards Banquet. All school-winning posters will be displayed at the Colorado State Capitol.

All fifth-grade classrooms in Colorado, including home schools, are eligible to participate.

The deadline for state contest submissions is March 3, 2007.

For free ecosystem curriculum materials, including in-depth lesson plans, hands-on activities and contest information, call Donna Davis, Colorado's contest coordinator, at (719) 384-9087 or dodavis@lamar.colostate.edu.
