Bulldogs cage Cougars

Moffat County sees success at Friday Night Duels

It wasn't much of a battle with Moffat County caging the Union Cougars, 63-15, at the Friday Night Duels in Roosevelt, Utah, but the 145-pound match made up for the lack of close encounters when Union's Rene O'Driscoll nipped Bulldog tussler, Levi Weber, 15-14, by scoring a three-point near-fall just a split second before the buzzer.

"It was just a tilt. I knew time was running out and so I put something in. I just barely made it," said O'Driscoll.

Weber had led 8-2 after one round on three takedowns and a near fall. A takedown and near fall had O'Driscoll within three at 10-7 at the end of the second round. Weber led 14-8 early in the third round before O'Driscoll went on his 7-0 winning run.

Prior to O'Driscoll's heroics, Moffat County was cruising down U.S. Highway 40 with a 30-0 lead on pins by 119 -- Brice Boling in 1:35 against Colby Harmston; 125 -- Jake Breslin against Alex Eddington in 3:25; 130 -- Matt Kincheloe against Cassidy Farnsworth in 49 seconds; 135 -- Chris McAlexander in 1:49 against Tyson Duncan; and 140 -- Drew Turner in 1:00 against James Mitchell.

Boling heated up the action early with a takedown and two near-falls in the first round. Breslin was in charge from the start with a takedown in the first round and three near-falls, takedown on his way to a 13-0 edge. Kincheloe was a quick finishing artist with less than a minute on the canvas. McAlexander recorded a takedown, near fall and was on his way to a win. Turner turned his matman over for a pin after a quick takedown move.

Jake Bricker, 152, took care of Union's Daryl Farnsworth in rapid speed when, after a takedown and near-fall, he pinned the Roosevelt matman with 25 seconds left.

Union won two matches to make the home crowd happy with Anthony Carter pinning Moffat's Lyle Schaffner with 1:01 left in the first round at 160 pounds, and 285-pounder Jason Busenbark scoring a pin against Moffat's David Hickson with 23 seconds to go in the second round. Busenbark led 4-0 after one round.

Moffat County won the remaining matches with several against non-Union Cougars as the Roosevelt team lacked wrestlers in two weights. Trenton Duarte, 171, edged Morgan's Kyle Watkins, 8-4; Nick Navratil won on a forfeit, Josh Satterwhite, 215, decisioned Mike Hardinger, 6-0; Cory Vigil, 112, pinned Thomas Berrett in 1:08. Kolby Dastrup of North Ridge near Salt Lake City pinned Brandon Maigatter in the second round.

In other matches, Moffat defeated Uintah, 58-18; Morgan, 48-22 and Bear River, 51-24. Moffat was 4-0 going into a late match against. North Ridge.
