Facing the Moffat County High School wrestling team, Steamboat Springs coach Sean McCarthy knew the match would be lopsided.
"When we got to the season, we knew what we had," McCarthy said.
What the Sailors have is an incomplete, young roster. That, combined with the Bulldogs' experience, led to a 75-6 Moffat County win.
The teams matched up for seven bouts, with all but one going to the Bulldogs.
In the most anticipated dual of the night, Moffat County's Drew Turner defeated Houston Mader, 6-5, in the 140-pound weight class.
Mader is Steamboat's only returning state qualifier from last season.
Mader said he came into the match under-conditioned and unfocused.
"I wasn't ready enough," Mader said.
Turner said that facing Mader was "really hard."
Bulldog pins from Brice Boling (119), Matt Kincheloe (130), Levi Weber (145), Trenton Duarte (171) and Nick Navratil (189) helped increased Mofffat County's sizeable lead.
Bulldog coach Roman Gutierrez said a dual like Thursday night's, when Moffat County is guaranteed a win, can be discouraging for some wrestlers.
"It's hard for young kids," Gutierrez said. "I told the kid at 119 (Steamboat's Derek Morris) to keep his head up."
Morris wrestled Moffat County state qualifier Boling and was taken out in 3:14.
Moffat County's Jake Bricker was pinned by Steamboat's Ben Deline in 5 minutes, 19 seconds in the 152-pound match.
McCarthy said Deline is showing a lot of promise.
Bulldog senior Nick Navratil racked up 17 points before pinning Zack Smith in 2:18.
"I just practiced my moves," Navratil said.
Smith, who ussually wrestles in the 160-pound weight class, was unable to make weight and was bumped up to the 189-pound weight class to take on Navratil.
McCarthy said that Thursday's dual was a tough one.
"We have a couple of freshmen who got a lesson," McCarthy said. "We consider Moffat County a standard, and they are a building block for us."
The Bulldogs visit Roosevelt, Utah, today for the Friday Night Brawl at Union High School.
Moffat County will face five opponents in the duals. Wrestling beings at 1 p.m.
